Abstract
Rocks in the deep Earth are known to be rich in nickel and cobalt. When these rocks are exposed to the surface and interact with water, they are easily altered and can sometimes concentrate these elements. Both nickel and cobalt are classified as critical minerals by the US Geological Survey and the Department of Energy given their importance to our modern life.
